FORD GT40 RESTORATION

Chassis 1057

[Chassis 1057]
GT40P#1057 was originally a "road car" and was painted a medium green and fitted with standard Borrani wire wheels. During the restoration, the owner's personal preference dictated a color change to Ford Red lacquer with a white side stripe, and the installation of the optional magnesium BRM (Gulf style) race wheels.

Chassis 1057 - Engine Bay.

When GT40P#1057 was restored, all of the original hoses, sparkplug wires, clamps, exhaust system, weber carbs, valve covers, etc. were cleaned and re-used on the car. Even though #1057 was a "road car", it came from the factory with the four 48mm weber carbs, 180 degree exhaust system and multi-disk clutch.

Chassis 1057 - Battery Box Area.
Most later production GT40 tubs, like #1057, had the battery located at the left rear fuel sponson area instead of the left front foot well position of earlier cars. Notice that the inside of #1057's fuel sponson is coated with epoxy primer.

Also, the battery box structure shows no sign of the corrosion that is typical of many GT40's. If you truly want to know the condition of an original GT40 tub, this is one of the places to inspect.

(before the installation of the fuel cell)

The fuel sponson is one of the main structural sub-assemblies of the GT40 tub. As such, it is imperative that it should be structurally sound. Most GT40 fuel sponsons do not look as nice as the one shown here unless they have been properly restored and preserved against rust.

Chassis 1057 - Spare tire.

GT40P#1057 still retained it's original Goodyear spare tire (with "Made in Great Britain" molded into it) and the original record # Borrani wire wheel.

Note the silver finish on the wheel, the Borrani sticker on the hub and the rubber hold down straps and clips.
